Mission
To form an Alliance of Floridians that will:
- Partner with African American students, parents, teachers, educational institutions and communities to improve educational opportunities and student achievement.
- Support standardized testing mechanisms that measure how well students are learning.
- Endorse the elimination of social promotion.
- Encourage students, teachers, parents, and schools to take responsibility in the education of our students.
- Develop and encourage the study and research of best educational policies and practices for decreasing the educational gap.
- Disseminate accurate information on the effectiveness education reforms have had on African American students since the inception of race- neutral principles and initiatives such as the A+ Plan and One Florida.
Guiding Principles
The Alliance believes in several key principles that are integral for the continued educational improvement and success of African American students.
- To encourage the involvement of parents, communities, and educators, which is critical to the educational preparation of every student.
- To ensure opportunity and access to educational tools and resources are provided to all children.
- To support accountability, rising student achievement, raising standards, and extensive training for educators.
- To support mechanisms to measure the learning gains and critical need areas of each individual student.
- To promote race-neutral principles which provide greater access for all students.
